We want to shine a light on a resource called BetterHelp*, an online platform which links you to a qualified therapist anywhere in the world to help with whatever you are going through. BetterHelp is changing the way people can approach their mental health, providing accessible care at all times via a phone call, video chat, live chat, or even a text message.
Finding a therapist that you gel with can be extremely hard, and in many countries, people are having to wait weeks (if not months) to see a someone in person. With BetterHelp, support is really close at hand, and reaching out for help can be as simple as sending a text message.
Several of our team have used this resources and found it extremely helpful to overcome and navigate challenges.
Quality Of Care
BetterHelp’s therapists are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, or licensed professional counselors.
While their specific background and expertise vary, they all have at least 3 years and 1000 hours of hands-on experience as mental health professionals. You are in good hands.
When you sign up for BetterHelp, you are matched with a therapist based on your specific needs. This match doesn’t always fit however, and there are options to request a new therapist available too. You can change as many times as you need until you find someone who suits. This is an important feature, as it is crucial to find someone who you align with and feel supported by.
Usability
It’s easy to sign up to, and users can be matched with a therapist within 48 hours. Firstly there is a process where you answer several questions about the reasons you’re seeking therapy and then the BetterHelp platform keeps you updated by email until you are paired up with a counselor.
This resource is brilliant in terms of the scope of people that it can help, but it doesn’t completely replace in-person therapy. BetterHelp therapists provide excellent talk therapy, but they cannot diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe medication. If you’re experiencing deep depression, suicidal thoughts or symptoms of a serious mental illness, it’s important to seek in-person help. If you’re in crisis call your country’s emergency number.
